You Can’t Room in the Radical
Scripture Reference: Acts 9:22
Paul’s conversion was nothing short of miraculous. One moment he was hunting Christians, breathing out threats and violence against the followers of Jesus. The next moment, he was preaching in synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God.
The transformation was so dramatic that people couldn’t believe it. Acts 9:21 tells us:
“All those who heard him were astonished and asked, ‘Isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name?’”
Paul’s message was radical, and not everyone liked it. In fact, many wanted him silenced — even killed.
Here’s the truth: when you follow Jesus wholeheartedly, some people won’t be comfortable with you. They’ll try to keep you “roomed in,” confined to their expectations. They might say things like:
- “Tone it down a little.”
- “You’re too extreme.”
- “Why can’t you just keep your faith private?”
But a radical faith can’t be boxed in.
Recently, I was struck by the story of Charlie Kirk, a YouTube influencer who was attacked for sharing his beliefs. Whether or not you agree with his politics, it’s heartbreaking to see how dangerous it can be for someone to express their convictions in today’s world.
The same forces at work in Paul’s time are still active today. There will always be people who want to silence the radical message of Jesus.
So, what do we do?
We face a choice: will we let others room us in, or will we choose to be radical like Paul?
Paul chose to stay bold. Acts 9:22 says:
“Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Messiah.”
This didn’t make him popular, but it did make him effective. His faith became unstoppable because he refused to let fear or opposition define him.
Maybe you’re facing pressure right now to keep quiet about your faith. It could be at work, school, or even in your own family. Here’s the encouragement: you don’t have to compromise. God has given you the courage to stand firm.
Take a moment today to ask yourself:
- Where am I being pressured to conform?
- What steps can I take to live more boldly for Jesus?
Remember, you can’t room in the radical. When you choose to follow Jesus, you step into a mission that’s bigger than any wall others might try to build around you.
