What Tried to Bury You Cannot Hold You

There is something deeply powerful about the image of the grave.

It represents endings. Finality. Defeat.

For Jesus, the grave was meant to be the end of the story. The weight of humanity’s sin, brokenness, and failure was placed upon Him. It was overwhelming—like being buried under something impossible to escape.

Yet even that could not hold Him.

At a church in Wythenshawe, this truth speaks directly into real life. Many people feel buried by circumstances—overwhelmed by pressure, weighed down by past mistakes, or trapped in cycles that seem impossible to break.

It can feel like sinking deeper and deeper, with no way out.

But the resurrection changes that narrative completely.

When Jesus rose from the dead, He didn’t just escape the grave—He conquered it. He proved that no weight, no sin, no force of darkness could overpower the love and power of God.

And that same victory applies to you.

The things that tried to bury you—your failures, your pain, your regrets—do not have the final say. They may have been heavy, but they are not stronger than the resurrection.

What’s more, the resurrection doesn’t just lift you out—it transforms you.

It renews your mind, restores your identity, and gives you a new foundation to stand on. You are no longer defined by what happened to you. You are defined by what Christ has done for you.

This is where the turning point happens.

Love overrules.
Grace overrules.
Life overrules.

Death loses its grip.

This doesn’t mean life becomes easy, but it does mean you are no longer powerless. You have access to a strength that goes beyond your own abilities.

So when you feel the weight of life pressing in, remember this:

What tried to bury you cannot hold you.

You are not meant to stay in the grave. You are called to rise.
