Seeking First the Kingdom – The Key to True Fulfilment
In a fast-paced world, it’s easy to get caught up chasing the next thing—success, possessions, or status. Yet at our Church in Cheadle, we often return to a simple but life-changing teaching from Jesus: seek first the Kingdom of God.
In Matthew 6, Jesus addresses a common human struggle—worry. People worry about what they will eat, drink, or wear. Sound familiar? It’s no different today. Busy shopping centres, packed car parks, and endless online browsing all reflect a culture chasing fulfilment through material things.
But Jesus offers a better way.
In Matthew 6:33, He says:
“Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
This isn’t a call to ignore our needs—it’s an invitation to trust God with them.
When we prioritise God, something remarkable happens: our perspective changes. The things we once thought were essential often lose their grip on us. Many people can relate to seasons of chasing things they later realised they didn’t need.
At our Church in Cheadle, we’ve heard countless stories of people who found freedom simply by shifting their focus from possessions to purpose. When you begin to seek God first, you discover that He knows your needs better than you do.
Contentment plays a huge role in this. In 1 Timothy 6:6–8, we’re reminded that godliness with contentment is great gain. True fulfilment doesn’t come from having more—it comes from recognising what truly matters.
This doesn’t mean ambition is wrong. It means our ambition is rightly ordered. Instead of asking, “What can I get?”, we begin asking, “What does God want for my life?”
Seeking the Kingdom involves prayer, aligning our will with God’s, and trusting Him daily. It’s about living with open hands rather than clenched fists.
At our Church in Cheadle, we encourage people to take practical steps—spending time in prayer, reading Scripture, and building a relationship with God. These aren’t religious routines; they’re ways of realigning our hearts.
When we seek God first, we don’t lose out—we gain clarity, peace, and purpose.
And often, we find that the very things we were chasing begin to fall into place naturally.
