Let the Heat In

When I was a child, we didn’t have devices or streaming services to keep us indoors. Winter or not, we’d be outside playing, coming in and out of the house constantly. I can still hear my mum’s voice ringing out: “Close the door! You’ll let all the heat out!”

In the Kingdom of God, the opposite is true. Spiritually speaking, Jesus calls us to open the door — to let the heat in.

In Revelation 3:20, He says, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with Me.”

It’s one of the most personal and beautiful invitations in Scripture. Jesus isn’t knocking on the door of unbelievers here — He’s speaking to His own church. To people who already know Him, but who have shut Him out through busyness, distraction, or indifference.

He’s saying, “Let Me back in. Let Me warm your heart again.”

When we open the door, Jesus promises to come in and share a meal with us. The Greek word used here — sunesthió(συνεσθίω) — means to eat together, to share in companionship. It’s more than a quick bite; it’s an intimate exchange, a time of presence and nourishment.

When you eat with Jesus, something happens. Spiritual digestion begins. He feeds your soul, renews your energy, restores your vision, and reignites your heat.

So how do we open the door?

Sometimes it begins with a simple surrender. I remember recently feeling overwhelmed — like I was at full capacity in life. I took time to pray, to stop striving and re-surrender my plans to Jesus. As I did, I sensed His peace and a gentle whisper in my heart: “You’re not at capacity. I’m about to increase your capacity.”

In that moment, something changed. My circumstances didn’t shift overnight, but my internal temperature did. The Lord let new heat in.

When we try to do everything in our own strength, our energy drains and our spirit cools. When we let Jesus in — when we pray, worship, rest in His Word, and invite Him into our everyday — He restores us. He brings spiritual warmth back into the cold places of our hearts.

Maybe you’ve been running on empty lately. Maybe your faith feels dry, or distant, or dull. The good news is that Jesus is still knocking. You don’t need to have it all together — you just need to open the door.

Listen for His voice. Make space for His presence. Let Him sit with you at the table of your life.

Because when you open the door, He doesn’t just step in — He brings the heat with Him.

So today, don’t let the door stay closed. Open it wide. Let the Lord come in, share a meal with you, and fill your life once again with His warmth, His peace, and His power.

Let the heat in.
