Jesus Knows Your Hidden Pocket
In our final blog of the series, we go from public pockets to private ones—the secret places where no one else sees.
Let’s talk about your hidden pocket.
When I was at school, my blazer had an inside pocket with a zip. That pocket was gold. I could store money, pens, sweets—even my fears, if that were possible! While other kids lost things under benches or down lockers, I kept mine secure. Hidden, but real.
We all have these places in our lives—the inner pockets of the soul. The parts we don’t broadcast. The longings we carry. The wounds we protect. The dreams we whisper.
Nathanael had one too. He had a literal place where he processed life—under a fig tree. We don’t know everything he said or thought there, but Jesus did.
In John 1:48, Jesus tells him: “I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you.”
That moment changed everything.
Jesus didn’t just enter missional pockets—He understood the hidden ones. He saw Nathanael’s pain, hope, searching. And He sees yours too.
Your internal battles. Your prayers that feel unanswered. Your tiredness with religion. Your yearning for something real. Jesus sees it all. And He doesn’t come with condemnation. He comes with invitation.
“Follow Me.”
This is the heart of the Gospel. Jesus doesn’t just call us to go. He meets us where we are. Under the fig tree. In the office. At the café. In our moment of quiet breakdown. He says, “I see you. I know what’s in your hidden pocket.”
So, what’s in yours?
- A disappointment you’ve buried?
- A desire for purpose you’ve not voiced?
- A friendship you wish could be deeper?
- A hope you’ve almost given up on?
Let me tell you this: Jesus is already there. And He’s calling you. Not into activity, but into relationship.
And maybe you know someone with a hidden pocket too. Someone who’s been sitting under their fig tree, wondering if God sees them. Could you be Philip to their Nathanael? Could you say, “Come and see”?
That’s the big idea: Mission isn’t about perfection—it’s about proximity. Show up. Speak love. Share the journey.
So, friends—go. Find your missional pocket. Enter someone else’s. Bless the margins. And remember: Jesus knows your hidden one, and He meets you there.
