Guard Your Future Anthem – Don’t Miss What’s Next
Sometimes we get so caught up in what we want our life to look like that we miss what God is doing right now. The truth is, you have more than one anthem. There’s a song for today, and a different one for the future.
In Mark 11:9–10, we see Jesus entering Jerusalem to shouts of “Hosanna!” The people were quoting Psalm 118, crying out for salvation, for a King, for revolution. Their anthem was one of triumph – but Jesus’ anthem at that moment was sacrifice.
The anthem the crowd sang was true – just not for now. That song was for His second coming, when He would return as the victorious King riding on a white horse (Revelation 19). But today? Today His anthem was to suffer. To serve. To save.
And so Jesus didn’t let the crowd’s anthem become His own.
How often do we let the wrong song guide us? We get distracted by the hype, the promise of status or success, or the longing to skip the hard parts. But friends, don’t claim tomorrow’s anthem before its time.
Jesus could have got swept up in the moment. He could’ve rallied the crowd, led a revolution, seized power. But if He had, we’d still be lost in our sin. He had to walk through His now to secure our future.
And so I want to ask: Are you content with the anthem of your current season?
You might be in a hard season – a frustrating job, a painful family situation, a waiting room kind of season. You might long for more. But don’t despise the anthem of now. Because it’s the anthem of now that leads to the anthem of the future.
If you skip this part, you’ll never reach the next.
So pause. Ask yourself:
- What is God doing in me right now?
- What does obedience look like today?
- Am I embracing today’s anthem, even if it feels small, hidden, or hard?
The people around Jesus didn’t understand the timing. But He did. And He was secure enough to stay in the now, knowing the future would come.
Be encouraged: your current anthem is preparing you for what’s ahead. Don’t miss your purpose today trying to chase tomorrow.
