Escape Your Room
Scripture Reference: Acts 9:25; John 14:2; 1 Corinthians 10:13
Escaping isn’t always easy. In fact, sometimes staying put feels more comfortable. We like our routines, our familiar surroundings, and the safety of the known.
Paul understood this tension. Damascus was his home. He knew the streets, the marketplaces, and the people. But when he began preaching about Jesus, his familiar city became dangerous. His very life was at risk.
Acts 9:25 tells us:
“His followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall.”
Picture that moment — Paul, a grown man, being lowered down a city wall in a basket. It wasn’t glamorous, but it was necessary.
In our lives, we’ll face similar moments where the room we’re in becomes too small, too toxic, or too dangerous for our spiritual health. Maybe it’s a job that drains your soul, a relationship that pulls you away from God, or a habit that keeps you stuck.
Here’s the truth: sometimes escaping your room requires help.
Paul didn’t escape alone. His friends stood by him, lifted him up, and literally lowered him to safety.
The same is true for us. We need people who will encourage us, pray for us, and help us take those first steps toward freedom.
Ultimately, though, our greatest escape isn’t from a temporary situation — it’s toward an eternal home. Jesus reminds us in John 14:2:
“My Father’s house has many rooms; I am going there to prepare a place for you.”
This is our ultimate destination. Life is full of temporary escape rooms, but one day we’ll step into a perfect, eternal room prepared by Jesus Himself.
Until then, God promises to provide ways of escape here and now. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 10:13:
“God is faithful… with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”
If you’re feeling trapped today, don’t lose hope. God sees you. He has a plan. Your current room isn’t the end of your story.
Take a bold step today. Ask for help, lean on your community, and trust Jesus to lead you toward freedom. The walls may be high, but with God, there’s always a way out.
