Blessed to Be a Blessing – Understanding God as the Source
At our Church in Cheadle, we often reflect on how God moves in our everyday lives. One truth that continually stands out is this: we are blessed to be a blessing.
Life brings moments of unexpected goodness—opportunities, provision, relationships, and favour. It’s easy to view these as coincidence or personal achievement, but Scripture points us in a different direction. In Genesis 41, we see the story of Joseph, a man who rose from hardship to influence, not by chance, but by God’s hand.
Joseph’s journey reminds us that God is the source of all blessing. In Acts 7:10, we read that God gave Joseph wisdom and favour, elevating him to a position of leadership in Egypt. This wasn’t something Joseph manufactured for himself—it was given.
Many people today carry a distorted view of God. Some see Him as restrictive, judgemental, or distant. Yet the Bible consistently shows us a God who desires to walk alongside us, to guide us, and yes—to bless us.
In our own lives, we can often look back and see God’s fingerprints in seasons that once felt difficult. Times of struggle frequently become seasons of growth, provision, and unexpected opportunity. At our Church in Cheadle, we’ve seen how God provides through people, community connections, and even financial provision at just the right moment.
Joseph’s promotion in Genesis 41:41–43 is a powerful picture of this truth. Pharaoh places him in charge of all Egypt, entrusting him with immense responsibility. This moment wasn’t just about Joseph’s success—it was about God positioning him for a greater purpose.
The key takeaway is simple but profound: blessing begins with God. When we recognise Him as the source, our perspective shifts. Gratitude replaces entitlement, and purpose replaces self-focus.
So, what does this mean for us today?
It means that whatever good we experience—whether it’s a job opportunity, a supportive family, or even a simple moment of peace—we can trace it back to God’s goodness. And more importantly, we begin to ask: How can I use this to bless others?
At our Church in Cheadle, we believe that understanding God as the source of blessing is the foundation for a generous, purpose-filled life. When we truly grasp this, it changes how we live, give, and serve.
Blessing was never meant to stop with us—it was always meant to flow through us.
