Stewardship – Managing What God Has Given You
A key theme we teach at our Church in Cheadle is stewardship. It’s not always a word people use in everyday conversation, but its meaning is incredibly practical: wisely managing what God has entrusted to us.
Every one of us has been given resources—time, relationships, skills, finances, and opportunities. The question is not whether we have something to steward, but how well we are stewarding it.
Joseph’s story in Genesis 41 provides a powerful example. Faced with the responsibility of preparing Egypt for a coming famine, he didn’t act casually. He planned, organised, and implemented a strategy that would ultimately save countless lives.
He appointed leaders, stored resources, and managed supply with wisdom and foresight. This wasn’t just leadership—it was stewardship at the highest level.
At our Church in Cheadle, we see stewardship in many forms. It’s reflected in how teams serve, how resources are managed, and how people care for one another. Good stewardship requires intentionality—it doesn’t happen by accident.
But stewardship isn’t just about large responsibilities. It starts at home.
It includes how we invest in our closest relationships. Marriage, family life, and friendships all require time, attention, and care. These relationships don’t thrive on autopilot—they need to be nurtured.
Joseph also had to steward his personal life, including his marriage and his role within Egyptian culture. This reminds us that stewardship extends into every area of life.
Sometimes stewardship can feel overwhelming. Responsibilities pile up, expectations grow, and we may even feel out of our depth. But here’s the encouragement: we are not meant to do it alone.
In Genesis 41:34–36, Joseph appoints others to help manage the task. Delegation wasn’t weakness—it was wisdom.
At our Church in Cheadle, we believe community is essential for effective stewardship. We support one another, share responsibility, and use our individual gifts to serve a greater purpose.
So, what are you stewarding right now?
Your career? Your family? Your time? Your gifts?
Whatever it is, God is with you in it. And as you steward well, you create opportunities not just for personal growth, but to bless others.
Stewardship isn’t about perfection—it’s about faithfulness.
