How a Christian Can “Prove” God
Scripture: Malachi 3:10
In Malachi 3:10, God makes a remarkable invitation: “Test me in this… and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven.” This is one of the few places in Scripture where God explicitly calls His people to test His faithfulness. The challenge is rooted in trust.
Many believers struggle with giving because of fear — the fear that there will not be enough left for their own needs. God addresses this fear directly. He calls His people to bring the whole tithe and to trust Him as their provider. Tithing becomes an act of faith, declaring that God is more reliable than our own calculations.
Proving God does not mean manipulating Him or giving with selfish motives. Scripture warns against shallow giving driven by the expectation of financial gain. Instead, God invites us to examine His faithfulness through obedience. As we step out in trust, we discover that He is true to His promises.
Throughout Christian testimony, countless believers have experienced God’s provision when they prioritised generosity. Sometimes His provision comes in supernatural ways; at other times, it appears through ordinary means — new opportunities, wise decisions, or unexpected blessings. In every case, His hand is evident.
This principle is not limited to finances. Jesus taught similar truths about forgiveness, saying that as we forgive others, we experience God’s forgiveness more deeply in our own lives. Obedience opens the door for God to work in powerful ways.
Giving should never be motivated by greed or pressure. Instead, it is an expression of love, gratitude, and trust. When we give faithfully, we acknowledge that God is our source. The focus shifts from fear of lack to confidence in His provision.
God’s invitation to “prove” Him is an invitation to deeper relationship. He calls us to discover His character firsthand — to see that He is faithful, generous, and trustworthy. As we respond with obedience, we learn that we truly cannot outgive God. Faithful stewardship becomes not only an act of worship but also a testimony to His goodness in our lives.
