Revelation in the Battle – Acting on What God Shows You
Gideon’s final lesson in Judges 7:7–15 is one of revelation. Warriors win battles not by might or strategy, but by acting on what God reveals.
When Revelation Seems Ridiculous
God tells Gideon to send home almost everyone — leaving just 300 men against an army “as thick as locusts.” It sounds absurd. Sometimes God’s instructions do. He asks us to take steps that make no sense — forgive when wronged, give when short, speak when afraid.
But revelation always requires action. Faith that never moves never matures.
God Knows Our Fears
God tells Gideon, “If you’re afraid, take Purah and go down to the camp.” Purah means branch — someone to lean on. Even the strongest leaders need support. God doesn’t shame Gideon for fear; He gives him reassurance.
Maybe that’s you. You believe, but you’re scared. You’ve had a word, a prompting, an idea — but fear holds you back. God understands. He’ll meet you where you are, but He’ll still call you to act.
From Revelation to Reality
At the enemy camp, Gideon overhears a soldier’s dream — a giant barley loaf rolling into their tents, symbolising Gideon’s coming victory. It’s an odd picture, but Gideon recognises it as confirmation. He returns to his camp, worships God, and declares, “Get up! The Lord has given Midian into your hands!”
That’s what faith looks like — hearing God, trusting Him, and acting even when everything looks impossible.
