A Nation Divided – A Church Awake
The Divided Kingdom and You – Part 2 (1 Kings 12 & Jude 1)
The story of Jeroboam and the divided kingdom ends tragically. Ten tribes follow a counterfeit religion. Within two centuries, the northern kingdom collapses under Assyrian conquest (722 BC). Division and deception always lead to downfall.
Britain, like ancient Israel, is deeply divided. Socially, morally, spiritually — we are fractured. But this isn’t a time for despair. It’s a time for the Church to wake up.
Jude 1:3 says, “Contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to God’s holy people.” To contend means to stand, to wrestle, to speak up. It doesn’t mean aggression — it means conviction.
God’s people must hold to:
Doctrinal integrity – guarding the truth of Scripture.
Moral courage – living faithfully in a compromised culture.
Spiritual vigilance – staying awake in prayer and discernment.
Gospel hope – reaching out to a searching nation.
God doesn’t abandon His people in divided times. He raises up faithful men and women to shine light in the darkness. The question is: will we be those people?
The Northern Kingdom fell because it accepted compromise as normal. Let’s not make the same mistake. When the Church stands for truth in love, it becomes a beacon of hope in a divided world.
