Jesus Has Your Back
Have you ever had someone step in and fight for you when you couldn’t fight for yourself?
Recently, my wife, Katie, attended a pre-tribunal hearing for our son, Samuel. The local authority wanted to place him in a school that couldn’t meet his needs. For 18 long months, we argued our case. It was exhausting and stressful. Finally, a judge intervened. After listening carefully, she ruled in Samuel’s favour. She understood his needs and ordered that he be placed in the right school, with all the fees covered.
That feeling – knowing someone powerful has your back – is incredible.
Hebrews 2:9 tells us that Jesus does this for us on a far greater scale. The verse says:
“But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while, now crowned with glory and honour because he suffered death, so that by the grace of God he might taste death for everyone.”
Jesus willingly stepped down from His position in heaven. He “downgraded” Himself, becoming fully human. He experienced hunger, temptation, pain, and sorrow – just like us. He knows what it’s like to face life’s struggles because He lived it Himself.
But He didn’t just come to understand us – He came to rescue us. Through His death on the cross, Jesus defeated sin and death. He paid the debt we could never pay. When He rose again, He was “crowned with glory and honour,” gaining ultimate authority.
Think of it like a promotion at work. My brother once worked at a company where he was promoted to a management position. With that role came influence – he was able to help friends and family get jobs within the company.
Similarly, through His victory on the cross, Jesus now has the ultimate influence. He stands before God on our behalf. When we sin, when we mess up, when life feels overwhelming, Jesus is there saying, “I’ve got this. They’re with Me.”
Sometimes we feel abandoned, like God has gone on holiday or forgotten about us. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Jesus is constantly fighting for us, interceding for us, and working things out for our good.
If you’re facing anxiety, stress, or trauma today, hear this truth: Jesus has your back.
He’s not a distant saviour. He’s a loving brother who steps into the courtroom of heaven and speaks up for you.
So bring your struggles to Him. Pray boldly, knowing He has both the power and the authority to act. You don’t have to face life’s battles alone.
Jesus is a brother like no other – and He’s on your side.
