Endless Credit

Romans 5:20–21

Upgrades are great—but have you noticed how many come with strings attached? Free trials expire, special offers run out, and bonus points vanish if you don’t use them quickly enough. Thankfully, when it comes to your life account with God, His grace is nothing like that.

Paul writes in Romans 5:20–21:

“But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

This is one of the most reassuring truths in Scripture: God’s grace is greater than your past. No matter how much you’ve failed, fallen short, or messed up, His grace can cover it.

But there’s a subtle trap here. Paul is not saying, “Go ahead and sin—God’s grace will cover it.” In chapter 6, he makes it clear that this isn’t the point. Grace isn’t permission to keep making destructive choices—it’s power to live differently.

I remember, early in my marriage, having recurring dreams that I’d somehow lost Katie. I’d wake in a panic, heart racing, before realising she was right there beside me. The relief was overwhelming. God’s grace is like that—sheer relief that the worst didn’t happen. It’s knowing that despite our spiritual debt, God loves us, has redeemed us, and won’t let us go.

Satan, our enemy, loves to play mind games—reminding us of our mistakes and whispering that we’ve missed out. When he does, we need to remember:

  • God’s grace is greater than our legacy.
  • His love is not dependent on our perfection.
  • Our life account will never run dry if we remain in Him.

Think of it like being handed a credit card at 16 with no spending limit and no repayment requirement—but instead of encouraging recklessness, it inspires you to live wisely, knowing you’re forever secure.

Endless credit in God’s kingdom means:

  • Eternal life with Him
  • Forgiveness for every confessed sin
  • Grace to grow and change

In Christ, your spiritual account can’t be emptied again. And that’s not just good news—it’s life-changing.

In our final post, we’ll bring this all together and talk about how to live with these “new account features” every day.
