Willing Mammas Gain the Advantage
Being willing can be a game-changer. Life presents us with opportunities to step up, but it’s not always the most skilled or experienced who make a difference—it’s the ones who are willing. Deborah, the mighty judge of Israel, exemplifies this truth in Judges 4:8-10. Her willingness to act changed the course of history.
A Generation of Unwilling Men
Deborah received a prophecy from God instructing Barak to lead the Israelites into battle. But Barak’s response was less than courageous: “If you go with me, I will go; but if you don’t go with me, I won’t go.” (Judges 4:8). Instead of stepping up, he hesitated. His reluctance mirrors what we sometimes see today—people waiting for someone else to take the lead instead of rising to the occasion.
Deborah, however, didn’t hesitate. She simply said, “Certainly I will go with you.” (Judges 4:9). She was willing, and because of her willingness, she gained the advantage—not just for herself but for her entire nation.
Why Willingness Matters
Willingness Opens Doors – Many people are talented, but not everyone is willing to step up. A willing person can go further than a reluctant expert.
Willingness Inspires Others – Barak was hesitant, but Deborah’s willingness pushed him into action. Sometimes, our willingness encourages others to move forward.
Willingness Brings Victory – Because Deborah was willing, Israel went up the mountain to gain a strategic advantage in battle. Being willing to act often positions us for success.
Are You Willing?
Deborah left behind the comfort of her leadership seat under the palm tree to go into battle. She knew that stepping up required sacrifice, but she did it anyway.
