The Goal and Impact of Evangelism
Evangelism is more than just telling people about Jesus—it’s about inviting them into a transformational relationship with Him. It exists to communicate good news and elicit a response. Evangelists are specially gifted in sharing the Gospel and drawing people to Christ.
A key part of evangelism is creating an invitational culture. Evangelists are skilled in making the message culturally relevant, using “sticky messaging”—powerful phrases that resonate with different audiences. They effectively communicate the value proposition of the Gospel: what’s on offer and what’s at stake if we ignore it.
Great evangelists like Billy Graham and Jackie Pullinger have demonstrated the power of catalytic witness, causing reactions in people and drawing them toward Jesus. But evangelism isn’t just about large-scale events. It happens in one-to-one conversations, such as speaking with a family member or a colleague over coffee.
Characteristics of Evangelists:
They inspire and energize others to share their faith.
They build relationships that lead to Gospel conversations.
They are deeply focused on reaching the unchurched.
They train and equip others for evangelism.
If you find yourself naturally drawn to sharing your faith and seeing people come to Christ, maybe God is calling you to develop your evangelistic gift further.
