The Power and Calling of Evangelism
Evangelism is one of the five-fold ministry gifts outlined in Ephesians 4:11-13. It is a grace given to the church to equip believers for works of service, ensuring the body of Christ is built up. The word “evangelist” comes from the Greek “euaggelistes,” meaning a bearer of good news. This role is vital in spreading the message of Jesus, reminding the world of God’s love and salvation.
Yet, many of us feel unqualified or powerless when it comes to evangelism. We might feel like foreigners in a strange land, without the confidence or resources to share our faith. This feeling is exactly what the enemy wants—to keep us silent, doubting our influence and effectiveness.
But Jesus has given us absolute power and jurisdiction in our mission. When He commissioned His disciples in Matthew 28:18-19, He declared, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations.” The Greek word for authority, “exousia,” literally means absolute power and jurisdiction. We are not powerless; we carry divine authority to share the good news.
So, wherever we go—our workplace, our community, our families—we have all the cards. We don’t need to be intimidated. We can confidently and wisely share our faith, whether over a meal, at a family gathering, or during a casual conversation. The Gospel is unstoppable, and we are its carriers.
