The Power of Consecration
Scripture Focus:
But you are the ones chosen by God, chosen for the high calling of priestly work, chosen to be a holy people, God’s instruments to do His work and speak out for Him, to tell others of the night-and-day difference He made for you – from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted.
(1 Peter 2:9-10, MSG).
What a privilege it is to serve God by serving others. This sacred calling is one we should never take lightly. Let’s take a moment to pause and let the awe of God’s invitation sink into our hearts. We are not merely members of a congregation or participants in a ministry—we are priests and kings, each entrusted with purpose, mission, and meaning.
The foundation of our service is not our talent, cleverness, or strength. It is the reality of God’s grace working through us. It is God who calls us, God who sustains us, and God who remains with us. This truth is the essence of consecration: setting ourselves apart for Him. It is in this consecration that we find the power to live out our calling.
A Vocation to “Do” and “Speak”
Our calling involves both action and proclamation. We are to demonstrate God’s love through what we do and declare His goodness through what we say. Let us never be ashamed of Jesus—He was never ashamed of us. Remember, He is the one with the plan, the resources, and the strength. Our lives are only impactful because of the transformation God has wrought in us.
A Night-and-Day Difference
The change God brings to our lives is profound. In the words of the Apostle Peter, He takes us from nothing to something, from rejected to accepted. This is consecration’s power—it transforms us. WB Yeats captures a similar thought in his poem Easter, 1916, when he writes:
“All changed, changed utterly: A terrible beauty is born.”
When we walk with God, something wondrous happens. He changes us and then changes the world through us. This transformation is not something to take for granted. It is a gift of grace, and it comes with a responsibility: to remain consecrated, to stay rooted in Christ, and to allow His life to flow through us.
A Call to Consecration
When we shy away from consecration, we are tempted to rely on our own strength rather than God’s. But consecration keeps us grounded, reminding us that the power to fulfil our calling comes from Christ alone. As we surrender ourselves to Him daily, we experience the renewal of our identity, purpose, and power.
Let us recommit to living consecrated lives—set apart for God’s purposes—so that His transformative power can continue to flow through us and into the world around us.
Reflection and Prayer:
- Are you living out both the “doing” and “speaking” of your calling?
- In what ways have you seen God’s transformative power at work in your life?
- Ask God to deepen your consecration and help you rely fully on His strength.
Father, we thank You for the privilege of serving You. Help us to remain consecrated—set apart for Your purposes. Remind us daily of the transformation You have brought into our lives, and empower us to live out our calling with boldness and humility. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
