Living with Consecration: The Path to True Humility
“Friends, this world is not your home, so don’t make yourselves cozy in it. Don’t indulge your ego at the expense of your soul.” — 1 Peter 2:11 (The Message)
We often have short memories when it comes to recognising where credit is truly due. When people acknowledge our hard work and the impact we have made, it is natural to feel grateful. However, we must remain vigilant, remembering that all glory belongs to God alone. We are called to bask in His glory, not claim it for ourselves.
The ego is a subtle and dangerous adversary. You may believe you have mastered humility and set your priorities in order, but then—without warning—pride creeps in. You might start taking credit for things you didn’t do or remain silent when praise meant for someone else is directed at you. This can happen when we exaggerate our own efforts, present ourselves in an overly favourable light, or fail to acknowledge the contributions of others.
These are pitfalls that can lead us away from true humility, but they can be avoided through consecration. Consecration is a daily, deliberate choice to depend fully on God and to live with honesty and humility before Him and others. When we commit ourselves to consecration, a powerful transformation takes place:
We are freed from the grip of our fragile egos.
We are empowered to live with faithfulness, gratitude, and obedience.
A person who lives in consecration can genuinely celebrate the success of others without fear of being overlooked. They can stand in the shadow of another’s achievements without resentment. Most importantly, they recognise that ministry and success do not rest on their shoulders alone. Everything we accomplish is God’s work, and He is the one who ultimately carries the load.
When we understand that everything depends on God, we are liberated to work wholeheartedly as an act of worship. At the same time, we can rest in the truth that without Jesus, we can do nothing—and that is perfectly okay. Since the burden does not rest on us alone, we can find peace in knowing that everything is in His hands.

-Who can you thank today for their work? Take a moment to celebrate someone else’s efforts.
-How does consecration free you to appreciate others more?
-Do you struggle to celebrate others? If so, ask God to reveal why and help you overcome it.
-Are there areas where you exaggerate your role or significance? Why do you feel the need to do that?
-What practical steps can you take to practise consecration? Consider correcting an exaggeration, sending a note of thanks, or highlighting someone else’s contribution.
As a church and as individuals, let us strive to embody humility, honesty, and consecration in our daily lives. By doing so, we will reflect God’s glory in all that we do, pointing others to Him rather than ourselves. Let us commit to living lives of true humility, giving credit where it is due, and trusting in God’s sovereign hand in all things.
