Christmas Nativity service for all the family
Forget nostalgic Christmas tv ads for groceries that involve celebrity elves and McDonalds chicken burghers with a Christmas theme… enjoy the real thing (remember that Coke ad?) at Bethany Church’s Christmas carol service. Nothing quite beats the joy of turning up to church for a Bethany Church Nativity service, a rerun of that classic story of wise men, shepherds, mangers and virgin birth. Then the carols… English kings traipsing around in the crisp snow, earth as hard as iron… probably before global warming. Bethany church is well into modern songs but we are guaranteed to go retro at Christmas with all the old favourites. ‘Once in David’s City’, ‘Whilst Shepherds Watched Their Flocks By Night’, ‘Away In A Manger’, ‘Hark The Herald Angels Sing’… we have quite some Christmas playlist queued up for Sunday.
What are your top requirements for a Christmas service? Parking? Yes, large carpark. A warm welcome? Yes by our welcome team. A warm building? Yes. No skimping on the temperature. Hearty Christmas carols? Yes, many of old favourites. Christmas story? Yes with kids and music. Post service seasonal refreshments? Yes. Mince pies and all. I even heard it hinted there would be mulled wine.
Sunday morning might be a disappointment for some: no kids dressed as angels, or shepherds with towels wrapped around their head BUT a multimedia spectacular with audience participation with Bethany Church’s childrens’ and adult choirs. Plus lots of traditional Christmas hymns. Everyone is welcome and there is always room at the back in the coffee lounge extension for late comers post 10.30am.
