Boldly Going Where You’ve Never Been Before. Boldly Go Where You’ve Never Been Before
In our third instalment of “Holding Nothing Back,” we explore Paul’s encouragement to the Corinthians to boldly go where they’ve never been before in their faith and generosity, as illustrated in 2 Corinthians 8:1-7. Paul urged the Corinthians to trust the Lord more deeply, especially in supporting the Jerusalem Church, which was facing trials and persecution.
The Macedonian churches are exemplary in this regard. Despite their own severe trials and extreme poverty, they demonstrated sacrificial generosity. They gave beyond their ability, urgently pleading for the privilege of sharing in service to the Lord’s people. They exceeded expectations in their generosity.
When we first started hosting Pais apprentices in 2017, our church experienced over-and-above offerings, much like the Macedonian churches. This spirit of generosity continues to define us. Whether for special causes, general giving, or developing the next generation, we often go beyond what is expected.
If this attitude towards generosity is new to you, consider the history of our church. It was built without any debt, thanks to people who boldly went where they’d never been before in generosity. This kingdom mindset is something the Lord wants us all to embrace.
Paul’s call to the Corinthians is a call to us as well: boldly go where you’ve never been before. Trust the Lord with your resources and see how He blesses you and those around you. Just as the Macedonians gave themselves first to the Lord and then to others, we too can follow this path of over-and-above commitment to serve the mission of the church.
